The OUSD Student Wellness Policy focuses on nutrition and physical education.  

Foods and beverages sold to students through the district’s child nutrition program, student stores, vending machines and fundraisers meet or exceed state and federal nutrition standards. Nutrition education is provided as a part of the district’s health education program.

Make Money for King Every Time You Grocery Shop!!!

Dear Parents and Staff,

Here is an easy way for our school to make money, and it doesn't cost you a thing!  We all have to eat, so we are asking you to register your Ralph's grocery store cards (and Von's, Macy's, or other participating merchant cards ~ see the Escrip merchant list).  Tell everyone you know to register theirs as well.  All you have to do is take a few minutes to register, then use your cards when you shop!!!

Aqui estan unas maneras de recaudar dinero para la escuela.  Si tienen una tarjeta de las tiendas Ralph's o Von's, estamos pidiendo que registren su tarjeta en el internet.  Solamente tienen que registrarla y usarla cuando vayan de compras.

LCAP Survey for Parents, Staff and Community Members

LCAP 2.jpgA short survey to solicit community and staff input as the district works to finalize this year’s Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is being offered by the Oceanside Unified School District.  To provide input, please Click LCAP Survey to share your thoughts on how OUSD can best utilize state funding to serve the needs of all children attending schools in the district. 

The LCAP is used to help tie the district’s annual budget to goals for making academic improvements.  It is an important part of the state’s required Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which was established in 2013. The short survey will be available online through Friday, May 22.

Congratulations to Lisa Boyster for being named OUSD Teacher of the Year! 

washington D.C trip April 2-6 2016

 

The 2016 Washington, DC trip will be led by Sharrie Allen from Chavez Middle School.  

If  you register before June 4, 2015, you will save $125 on the cost of the trip and $50 on registration fees. It will also give your student the opportunity to earn money over the summer towards the cost of the trip. Payment plans are available!

In November there will be a fundraiser to further help towards the expense of the trip.

The 5-day trip will be taken April 2 – 6, 2016 during Spring Break so no class time will be missed by traveling students.

Note from the Health Office to all 6th grade students: 

By law, all students entering the 7th grade must show proof of the Tdap immunization.  The immunization must have been given on or after their 7th birthday. 

Please bring your child’s updated immunization record to the health office so we may update our records.  Your student will not be able to register or attend classes for the 2015-2016 school year without proper documentation of this immunization.  

FAMILY LIFE/SEX EDUCATION

Dear Parent or Guardian,

During the spring, teachers at King Middle School will be presenting the district's Family Life/Sex Education Curriculum. The curriculum has been approved by the Board of Education and complies with the requirements of the California Education Code. 

Students will receive the Family Life/Sex Education instruction unless we are notified otherwise in writing. If you do not wish your child to receive this instruction, please complete the opt-out form and return to the school by Friday, April 24, 2015.

King Middle School has been designated as a Zero Waste School and in an effort to become more "green" we will make these forms available for those who wish to opt out. The objectives for each grade level and the opt-out form is available below or you can pick one up in our front office.

New State Testing Period Underway District-Wide

 

Students in grades 3-8, and 11, are now taking part in the new California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASP) online testing program. These new exams will be administered during the next two months and replace the longtime STAR tests students have taken in previous years. The CAASP exam covers computer adaptive tests in English/Language Arts, mathematics, and a traditional paper-based science evaluation.

The San Diego County Office of Health and Human Services has verified several reported cases of measles throughout the county. Please know that NO cases of this highly contagious viral infection have been reported in the Oceanside Unified School District. 

Click Measles Information to learn more about what you can to help prevent the spread of this condition, and what to do should you suspect your child or some other person in your family or household may have symptoms of measles. In the event of any reported cases in our district, you will be informed. Visit Centers for Disease Control for further information.

New District Student Absence Policy

Attention Parents:

The  OUSD Board of Education amended administrative regulation 5113(a) effective August 26th, 2014 regarding student absences. The policy now reads, "Absences must be cleared within 5 school days after the student returns to school."  

In accordance with this new policy, please make sure that you clear your student's absence within five (5) school days after their return. To report your child's absence please call our attendance line at 760-901-8801. Just a reminder in order to excuse your child's tardy it must be for medical reasons.
