Foods and beverages sold to students through the district’s child nutrition program, student stores, vending machines and fundraisers meet or exceed state and federal nutrition standards. Nutrition education is provided as a part of the district’s health education program.

Make Money for King Every Time You Grocery Shop!!!
Dear Parents and Staff,
Here is an easy way for our school to make money, and it doesn't cost you a thing! We all have to eat, so we are asking you to register your Ralph's grocery store cards (and Von's, Macy's, or other participating merchant cards ~ see the Escrip merchant list). Tell everyone you know to register theirs as well. All you have to do is take a few minutes to register, then use your cards when you shop!!!
Aqui estan unas maneras de recaudar dinero para la escuela. Si tienen una tarjeta de las tiendas Ralph's o Von's, estamos pidiendo que registren su tarjeta en el internet. Solamente tienen que registrarla y usarla cuando vayan de compras.

Show Your School Spirit and Raise Money For Our School!
Put on your running shoes and come to the 10th Annual Pacific Marine Credit Union O’side Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, November 26th. The races are designed to satisfy everybody’s running or walking appetite, on a fast scenic beachside course with a 10K, 5K, Kids 1 Mile Run for ages 7-12 and ¼ mile run for ages 6 and under.
Register online at www.osideturkeytrot.com or pick up a form in the front office. All registered participants have the option of donating $5 of their entry fee to the School of their choice. If 100 participants register and designate our school that would be $500 for our children.
Volunteer opportunities are also available to help students earn community service hours.
Together we can be the biggest and best school in the 2015 O’Side Turkey Trot.
This is open to all girls and their moms. Please return the completed application to Student Services by October 14, 2015 to reserve your space. District bus will be provided from Martin Luther King Middle School to Mira Costa College
Washington D.C TRIp
A parent Informational meeting will be held on September 17, 2015 at 6:00pm in the Chavez MPR. Attend the meeting and register before September 19th, to receive $25 off the cost of the trip.
Trip dates are Saturday, April 2 – Wednesday April 6, 2016, during the week of Spring Break. For more trip information visit www.worldstridesdiscovernow.org and sign up online using trip ID# 116287.

By law, all students entering the 7th grade must show proof of the Tdap immunization. The immunization must have been given on or after their 7th birthday.
Please bring your child’s updated immunization record to the health office so we may update our records. Your student will not be able to register or attend classes for the 2015-2016 school year without proper documentation of this immunization.

The San Diego County Office of Health and Human Services has verified several reported cases of measles throughout the county. Please know that NO cases of this highly contagious viral infection have been reported in the Oceanside Unified School District.
Click Measles Information to learn more about what you can to help prevent the spread of this condition, and what to do should you suspect your child or some other person in your family or household may have symptoms of measles. In the event of any reported cases in our district, you will be informed. Visit Centers for Disease Control for further information.

New District Student Absence Policy
The OUSD Board of Education amended administrative regulation 5113(a) effective August 26th, 2014 regarding student absences. The policy now reads, "Absences must be cleared within 5 school days after the student returns to school."
In accordance with this new policy, please make sure that you clear your student's absence within five (5) school days after their return. To report your child's absence please call our attendance line at 760-901-8801. Just a reminder in order to excuse your child's tardy it must be for medical reasons.

OUSD Policy on Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination
The local educational agency (LEA) adopted a policy that prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on actual or perceived ancestry, age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or association with a person or a group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.

California is one of 45 states nationwide to adopt the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English/Language Arts and mathematics. This shift in teaching has been characterized by some as “the most significant change to classroom instruction since 1998,” when California first adopted its own academic standards.
